Long awaited… SE P990i reviewed
Engadget Mobile has a summary of reviews for the SonyEricsson P990i. Both the reviews and comments by owners of the phone give a mixed impression. Some like it (even a lot), others say it’s a failure. From what I read, after owning a P800 and a P910i, I most likely will miss the five-way jog wheel which has been reduced to a three-way jog wheel. What really would p… me off is that SE changed connectors both for the sync and the recharger. So far, all my SonyEricsson phones used compatible charger plugs and thus I have a decent collection of chargers. I have one in the office, one at home and one in my laptop backpack and another one or two in spare. And two docking stations as well. All this would be rendered useless when switching to a P990i. Shame on SonyEricsson for that.
What would be most welcome though, would be the WiFi connectivity. UMTS… I am not too sure about that, since I still think the tariffs are too pricy. At least with my needs for anywhere connectivity. A more decent camera sure is a nice-to-have, but not critical. Similarly, I am not sure about the keyboard. So far, I have been pretty efficient with the stylus and the character recognition. But I will give it a try as soon as Dani gets a hold on a testing device :-).
Reviews are available at All About Symbian, Phone Arena and as a video podcast at UKOnline.
Ein geiles Phone! Aber leider kommt es sehr spät

Hm, for me it would come at the right time since I am considering a replacement just now. But you’re right, it is quite late compared to the first product announcements and compared to competitor’s models with similar features.
The other day, I was at a shop and could look at a P990i for a bit. Unfortunately, it was already sold and just waited for its new owner to pick it up, so I couldn’t switch it on or really check anything.
Wait for the weekend…

So i hope you don’t have to wait too long then
Actually i saw a P990i as well, but i think it’s quite thick.
So for now, i do have and use a E61 from Nokia, which really works good, and i love the screen!

[…] After reading many reviews over the last weeks and after holding a switched-off device in my hands in the store two weeks ago, last night, Dany came along with his test device of the SonyEricsson P990i. I had a chance to play with it for a while and I must say, I like it. […]
